A proper driveway clean isn't just a hose at high pressure — it's the right combination of surface cleaner, chemistry and rinse to lift embedded grime without leaving stripes, gouges or a hazy film. We pull driveways, paths and pavers back to their original colour without tearing up the surface.
- Driveways, paths, pavers and commercial carparks
- Commercial rotary surface cleaners for an even, stripe-free finish
- Hot-water and cold-water units — the right one for each job
- Oil-stain pre-treatment with proper degreasers
- Post-clean biocide to stop algae and lichen returning
- Optional sealing to lock in the result
Why it matters on the Northern Beaches
Most driveways on the Beaches are either plain broom-finish concrete, exposed aggregate, or clay and concrete pavers. All three collect the same cocktail — tyre rubber, brake dust, engine oil drips, gum-tree tannins and, on shaded southern aspects, a thick mat of algae that turns slick in winter. Homes near the dunes get sand grinding into the surface as well. None of this comes off with a garden hose, and a lot of it won't shift with a wand alone. You need a rotary surface cleaner passing at a controlled speed to get an even finish.
Our process
We run a commercial-grade hot or cold-water unit through a rotary surface cleaner at 2,500 to 3,500 PSI, depending on the substrate. Concrete gets the surface cleaner first for an even pass, then a lance detail around edges and expansion joints. Oil stains get pre-treated with a degreaser and left to dwell. Organic growth gets a sodium hypochlorite treatment after the mechanical clean so it doesn't grow straight back. For clay pavers and exposed aggregate we dial pressure back and use a different tip profile so we don't pull aggregate loose or erode the jointing sand. If joints need re-sanding or the driveway would benefit from sealing afterward, we can do that as part of the same visit — see our concrete sealing service.
What can go wrong if it's done rough
Run a zero-degree nozzle across concrete and you get tiger stripes that never come out. Hit pavers too hard and you blast the sand out of the joints, which then move, tilt and pool water. Use the wrong chemistry on coloured concrete and you can bleach it patchy. We've spent years figuring out what each surface can handle — and the difference shows at the edges, where rushed jobs always leave visible transition lines.
When to book it in
Most residential driveways need a proper clean every 18 months to two years, sooner if they're heavily shaded. Commercial carparks, strata driveways and retail frontages need more frequent attention for safety as much as appearance — algae over concrete is a slip risk. Book it in before sealing, before sale, or before the driveway starts looking dark enough that the neighbours notice.
